**** When Chance dropped that verse on "Ultralight Beam", he pretty much instantly found himself a new fan. When the positive reviews starting rolling in for this, I knew I would go to whatever means necessary to hear this as soon as possible.

I feel like I've said most of what needs to be said in my reviews for the songs, so this is going to be pretty brief.

There are clear religious influences in this mixtape, and I feel Chance conveys it with a lot of passion, as it is something he really gets in to.

His musical choices really are quite special as well. As we progress through the first half of the album in particular, it just feels as if it is developing and growing in stature. It really starts to take shape in a musical form.

The first 6 songs are particularly great, but then I feel it loses its way a little. It still has its moments in the second half, but it just loses that consistency which made those first 6 tracks a delight to listen to.

Songs like "Mixtape" feel more like they belong on Young Thug's record than on here, "Juke Jams" just doesn't do anything for me, and "Smoke Break" just feels totally out-of-place on an album preaching religion.

There's quite a few features here, and that gives me hope that Chance is going to be the next big thing in rap. To attract big names like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Future, Young Thug, Justin Bieber and so much more, just for a mixtape by the way, just shows to me that he is going to be a big deal.

And even despite these big names, it never feels as if the attention is taken away from Chance himself. He is the star of this, and so he should be.

Overall, a very strong mixtape, that really would have been a 5*+ had there been the consistency in the second half. If we had something as good as "Ultralight Beam" on here, which it feels some songs were striving to be, then I think it would have been a 5* record regardless, but we don't get quite there unfortunately, even though Chance shows glimpses of his lyrical dexterity at times that really is a joy to listen to.

FAV TRACKS: NO PROBLEM, ALL NIGHT, D.R.A.M.
